To BCS or not to BCS: Should the U.S. Government mandate a college football playoff to determine a true champion?

Project Background: An assigned project started during Winter term of 2010 at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.  The J205/206 ‘Gateway to Media’ was a class dedicated to a term-long research project that investigated a public policy issue.  The public policy topic I decided upon was unequivocally mine to choose from its inception.  Through guidance of my professors it was created and produced from the ground-up.

I chose to research something that interested me personally and professionally.  The research throughout this project reflects my need to cut through the rhetoric, give a pragmatic and fair view to a very convoluted public policy issue.  Sifting through hundreds of sources, interviewing some of the biggest players in the debate and formulating a multimedia piece was no easy task but completely necessary to answer the question:  Should the US Government mandate a college football playoff to determine a true champion?
